State of Michigan Sales Tax Solutions

State of Michigan Sales Tax Solutions

The State of Michigan makes about a third of their tax revenue each year from sales tax. If your company has had to dip into its sales tax money in order to cover business costs, this unfortunately means the State of Michigan will soon be sending notices to demand its payment.

In order to protect your business from having its accounts levied, it’s important to have someone familiar with corporate sales tax procedures on your side. The Franskoviak Tax Solutions corporate tax experts can help you find a solution to pay off your debt in an affordable way. On your behalf, we can submit offers in compromise, negotiate a payment plan that protects your company’s assets, or find another solution that best serves your company.

What is the penalty for not paying sales tax?

For most U.S. states, the failure to pay penalty is much lower than the failure to file penalty.

Failing to file or remit collected sales tax to the Michigan Department of Treasury will result in a penalty of 5% of the total unpaid tax due for the first two months. After two months, the 5% interest penalty is applied each month with the maximum late penalty being capped at 25% of the unpaid tax owed.
